Indoor GIS

This project involved installing Linux Fedora Core 8 as a Unix Administrator on a virtual machine along with various versions of the latest software needed to run GeoRanger (PHP, Apache, and Mapserver). A PostgreSQL database with PostGIS and pgRouting functions were installed and created on the server. The next phase of the project was to add a new network system from AutoCAD building line work. A series of ArcGIS models were used to automate most of the conversion from AutoCAD to the existing PostgreSQL database format. This project also involved the integration of Wi-Fi tags, as a means to detect location, with the existing application. The final phase involved replacing a Java applet interface with the msCross AJAX script.

These developments have significantly improved the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and routing possibilities of the web application. Users are now capable of navigating through the BCIT campus, locating classrooms, personal offices, or services.
